Impoundment. Any animal found to be at large within the
city may be impounded in the animal shelter designated by the city in a humane
manner. Impounded animals shall be kept
for a period of not less than seventy-two (72) hours unless sooner claimed by
the owner. If by a tag or other
reasonable means, the owner can be identified, the animal shelter or its
designated agent shall, as soon as possible, upon impoundment, notify the owner
by telephone or mail of the impoundment of the animal. In the event an impounded animal shall not be
redeemed within the detention period above set forth, then, and in that event,
said animal shall be deemed abandoned and title thereto shall pass to the city
by operation of law.
