The Overbrook Rotary Club:

 

Adopted 2 miles of U.S. Highway 56 west of Overbrook and picks up trash from the sides at least 3 times a year. Kansas Department of Transportation cooperates with the club in this effort.

 

Selects the most outstanding female and male students in the Overbrook Attendance Center (OAC) and Santa Fe Trail (SFT) High School and recognizes a Teacher of the Year in the SFT district.

 

Partners with OAC in the “I like me” program for beginning students.

 

Provides dictionaries to OAC’s 4th grade students each fall as part of the District 5710’s Project Dictionary Literacy Program.

 

Built and maintains a picnic shelter at the back of Jones Park near a small lake.

 

Hosts local farmers at a farm breakfast to recognize their contribution to the community and provides a useful program directed to their occupation.

 

Hosts a blood bank visit twice each year to ensure that those in the community will have an adequate supply of blood at the lowest cost possible.

 

Puts on a melodrama in September, a chili feed at SFT during the winter, and a pancake feed on the 2nd Saturday of February as fund raisers to pay for the Rotary International Foundation and local expenses of the club’s charity work.

 

Hosts visitors from other countries who are here under the Group Study Exchange (GSE) program of Rotary to promote understanding and good will.

 

Participates in the awarding of 2 Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships for studying in other countries by U.S. college and university students.  This involves serving on the selection committee for our district.
